People often say that “it takes all types to make the
world go around,” and that “variety is the spice of life,” and other such
things; but, are those concepts truly valid and okay?
The point is that the Bible is fairly strict with respect
to about 90-95% of our lives. If everyone lives as they are supposed to,
obeying Scripture, there would be very little difference between us – apart from
physical builds and voices. (If we were all in shape and taking care of our
bodily temples, those would even be far less.)
Whenever we see people that seem unique or different, it
is often for the wrong reasons. Indeed, think about radicals that made it big
in all public fields, especially entertainment. The differences are generally
not holy, are they? (Some rule breakers often do well in society, while others
are squashed for being arrogant or unwilling to be team players.)
No, I think the differences between people that are truly
okay are the mental ones, the loves, passions, and loving works done naturally
without much effort. The evil world does not think that way, however.
In today’s world, the virtuous Proverbs 31 woman or the
Psalm 1 man standout as weird, when in fact we all should be like them. These
days bad is seen as good, whereas good is seen as bad. We have screwed up God’s
Creation immensely.
I am as guilty as anyone. For instance, I caught myself
admiring a couple of hot young women in tight jeans at a church service the
other night. They were right there in my line of sight, and I liked their looks,
until I thought hard about what I liked. Understand?
For an instant I also thought about how relaxed and
comfortable the guys looked in the church, with several wearing baseball caps
in the service. I sorta wanted to wear mine! Then I thought about the Bible
verses against it, and the symbolism involved. Maybe that was not so cool after
all.
I am not being critical; I am just saying that we ought
to take a closer look at what we admire about people. Often what we like is not
a good thing. It is not always good and creative to be different, as much as we
all love to be unique.
