Though I often dislike tv preachers (for their modern
prosperity message, as opposed to Jesus and the Cross) many lately on the BVOV
Network have actually been making sense with respect to the subject of “our
words.” It is extremely convicting, in fact. How?
We are accountable to God for every word we say in our
lives. Think about that. Every word. We will answer for all of them. It can be
a scary thought, especially if we do not change our talk or repent of the
wasted and mean words we all say (especially me).
Calling people certain words even places people in danger
of Hell fire. But - perhaps just as significant is that our minds and hearts
listen to our words, and subconsciously act upon them. Get it?
We tend to do as we talk most of the time. Our words set
our moods, mindset, and determine success or failure. Isn’t that a big deal?
YES.
Words reveal an awful lot about us as individuals. Out of
the abundance of our hearts our mouths speak. Like a mirror shows your face,
words show your heart. Yikes.
Naturally, we all need to clean up our acts and our
words. Those little jokes? White lies? Half-truths? Words spoken in anger, not
really meant later? Dishonoring God’s name either directly or indirectly?
Outright untruths? Name calling that is unjustified? Running our mouths for
useless purposes? Foolishness? I think you understand.
Words also mean a lot in the way of worship. God lives
amid His praises. The Bible says so. We use words to praise Him. Wow! We also
communicate in prayer with the God of the Universe via words. Talking is a huge
deal (or simply communicating, if you are injured and cannot talk).
In Scripture, people were often named specifically for
traits their parents wanted them to have or obtain. Names are words too.
The subject is deeper than I am deep, and more important
than my words can say. Amen.
