Europe: Europe via Rick Steves - Jimmy Hall

I love Europe, and have vacationed/worked there a half a dozen times. (I particularly love Paris, France and Literary Paris.) Still, going to Europe is expensive, so I often live vicariously through dvds and television shows. Enter Rick Steves, the fun travel guide and European tour specialist.

Rick Steves seems to be a very down-to-earth nice guy. He knows and understands Europe like a favorite novel, and goes there often to update his guidebooks and trip material. He stays on top of things; and, things do change! I know, because I have watched him for a couple of decades.

Having traveled so many times to Europe myself (not yet with one of his groups, unfortunately), I know that this man knows what he is talking about 99% of the time (No one is perfect, except Jesus). Rick Steves may make a great living via traveling Europe, but he also likes people. That is the key.

Rick's programs and tours are "people-friendly," designed for a casual and comfortable European Experience. While Mr. Steves will often show the big tourist sites; he focuses on neighborhoods, history, and people. I like that. People like him.

Yes, I have to say that when I long for France or Europe I often buy or rent and view Rick Steves' Europe Through The Back Door material - or simply watch him on Public Television. Seeing Rick wandering around Europe is basically the next best thing to being there.
