Sex: What Sex Is For

Originally, sex was a part of the family and love process, and growth of a family physically, spiritually, and mentally. It was an act of marriage.

In the 21st Century, sex has become synonymous with a cheap thrill, dating, or rites of passage into adulthood. Sex is not by design for much of this. Sex is for more, and far more.

Sex is supposed to be a union and joining of two people. It is their special and spiritual "knowing" of each other as intimately as possible - physically and emotionally.

This "joining" or "union" was set apart by God for couples that are married. Whether we adhere to this principle or not, it still holds true. Why?

Marriage and the act of sex are also a figurative AND literal picture of Christ and His bride - The Church. A married couple is supposed to be a holy union, a truly big deal. In fact, up until the past century, couples that could not contain their lustful desires generally married, taking St. Paul's advice that it is better to marry than to burn with lust.

In our "If it feels good, do it" society, sex is no longer a big deal or anything important. We are more likely to have sex with someone than to trust them driving our car or riding our bicycle. We have de-evolved as a people, and become less and less holy through time.

The consequences are also far less troublesome for our sin (sex is fornication). Today, there are numerous types of birth control, and obtaining an abortion is easier then arranging an ear-piercing. SAD.

You see, this original holy union of marriage and sex is also how God populates Earth - to produce clean children, which are His own in the womb. Yes, the Bible says that the fruit of the womb is God's, and the parts of all babies/embryos are "numbered."

I think for Christians, most of what has been written is "old hat." What many perhaps do not know is that couples that have sexual relations are also healthier and live longer. Sex is good biologically.

Also, this sexual bonding for a couple helps to cement their marriage/union and hold it together. It is certainly not the primary factor, but none-the-less important, especially when other things are a little sad or bad.

Think about all of these things the next time you see a man and woman on tv or in a movie having casual sex, if you are watching. See if this piece in any way helps you to understad the cheapening of the holy and God-given gift of sex in the modern world.....
